Our Story

The Merlin’s Sun Home Theatre is dedicated to promoting artists and the arts through private gatherings.

Tim Gosley and Petra Kixmöller bought a house with a 50 seat theatre in it, which they call Merlin’s Sun Home Theatre (originally La Run.)

It is a private residence where Tim and Petra offer gatherings for house concerts and performances, workshops for children and adults, and their own performances. To date they have included fundraisers – (one for literacy honouring P.K. Page, another helping providing internet access to remote regions of Africa, plus others.) There have been numerous music concerts from world music, different jazz stylings, folk and folk-pop, and there have been poetry, theatre, and film events, most notably with beat poet Michael McClure. And there has been LED shadow puppet explorations with a Franz Kafka script.

Tim is a puppeteer of many styles. Trained as an actor, his break came working with The Muppets on Fraggle Rock which lead to nine years as Basil Bear on Canadian Sesame Street. His work in television was honoured with a Gemini Award for performing on a series called Wumpa’s World. At the same time, he worked in live puppet theatre in Toronto and then Quebec with explorations from the avant-garde to entertainment. His performances have been seen across Canada, in Germany, Austria and the U.K. He has written his own projects as well as cartoon and puppet scripts for television series in Canada, Germany and Denmark. After returning to Victoria after a thirty year absence he continues to perform, write and build shows as well as produce and direct shows. And all of this has led him to teaching his craft.

Petra came to Canada from Germany where she trained as an actor. She has acted with various companies in Canada both in English and German including Puente Theatre in Victoria and The German Theatre in Montreal. She has taught and directed drama at Les Enfants de la Terre Waldorf School in Waterville, Quebec. Plus she has taught German on various levels at the same school as well as privately and at The Victoria German School. She performs her own shows and other projects with Tim combining puppets, acting and storytelling. And along with Tim she hosts salon performances at Merlin’s Sun Home Theatre.
